CHAMPLAIN TREES

i sit in bed in the corner room of the guest house, still in awe of the seven trees that stand on the edge of the lake in shelburne, vermont, and the mountains of new york on the horizon that come into focus when the lake is calm. one of the trees has a visible root, a mirror image of its lowest branch. it leaves a strange imprint. just like these trees that surround me through the glass and the train tracks. the pier. the agitated waters in burlington that imitate the mountains.
